I took a knife skills class recently with Chef Tess in City Kitchen. The class was fantastic, I learned a lot, and there was plenty of food. Chef Tess is a great teacher and knows how to give constructive criticism. She is very knowledgeable about food and nutrition. A few months ago, I took a guided tour of the market with Chef Tess, which was a real treat. The tour was free, it was informative, and I gained a better understanding of the market. I would highly recommend taking a cooking class or doing a tour with Chef Tess at City Kitchen!

Chef Tess is the best. I would highly recommend booking an event at City Kitchen with her for bridal brunches, girls' night, team building, etc. First off, booking any sort of event in the summer can be a real struggle. I only had a few weeks to book the bridal brunch, and Tess was not only able to accommodate my budget, she also made every single girl feel right at home. Most of the girls had never met before, and Tess had us laughing and bonding over her stories, amazing knife skills and delicious food. She made sure to ask for volunteers, and we all felt like we were part of the cooking experience. As an added bonus, she made enough of her mouth-watering French toast soufflé that we were each able to have seconds and also save one for the bride's husband-to-be. He was still talking about how good it was the day after. My personal favorite was the grits. I'll be the first to say that I haven't graduated beyond making instant grits. But she put together the creamiest grits with smoked sausage, chives, assorted cheeses, fancy nuts, and all sorts of goodies that I would really take another class with her just to get more of that dish. Tess, you were simply the best from your staff helping me decorate prior to the event, to helping us connect throughout and letting us linger way beyond our allotted time after the event ended. You’re the best-kept secret in Reading Terminal Market. Thank you so much! You made my MOH job so easy!

City Kitchen is an amazing place!!!! My leadership team visited Philadelphia last week for professional development. After all the boring work stuff.....jk....they took a sushi-making class at City Kitchen. When they came back home to NY, they had only the greatest things to say about the entire experience - they loved the chef; were excited to have learned something new, and basked in the Philly hospitality. Even though I could not attend the trip, I had the pleasure and honor of booking their class with the amazing and incomparable HAILEY! All Hail to Hailey! She worked overtime to find the right class for us and was just so wonderful to work with, which eased my nerves about booking an out-of-town trip for my team without me being there. Thank you to Hailey and everyone who put this together. I hope to visit Philly in the near future and City Kitchen will be the first stop!

I planned a private birthday event at City Kitcheb, and I worked with Chef Tess Connors and Becca Orendorf. I decided on the Ready, Set, Cook event where we divided into 3 teams of 4 to prepare a family-style meal. We selected either an appetizer, entree, or dessert, and each team was given $75 to shop around Reading Terminal Market for ingredients. The group had a fantastic time, and now we know how it feels be on the TV Show Chopped! Competition was fierce, and the group made 3 appetizers, lamb chops, pasta, and two cakes! The event was slated for 2 hours, but we stayed an extra half-hour to wait for the cakes to bake as well as thoroughly enjoy our meal. The event is BYOB, and we enjoyed bringing our favorite beers and wine. I highly recommend City Kitchen!

thank you for the opportunity to share my feelings about chef tess. i live in Philadelphia and to have someone so knowledgeable and generous with ideas, tips and guidance right here at "home" at the reading terminal market is a gift. chef tess's energy never wanes - she is well prepared, extremely skilled (I love watching that knife move with such precision!) and pays close attention to each of her students, engaging hands-on with those who need extra care and instruction adding fun all along the way. she is articulate and clear in her teaching, and helps her students to know all the merchants in the reading terminal community better. chef tess is a find.

So much fun! I have done this as a group activity with friends, and a team building event with coworkers. Nichole and her team plan amazing menus, give a great demonstration that is hands-on, and the food at the end tastes incredible. The atmosphere is fun, light and we learned so much. I am still using the recipes we learned at home today. Can't wait to go back for another class!
