The restaurant was clean and spacious for our Sunday brunch for a party of 2. The hostess and wait staff were pleasant. Colin was our server. He was attentive and made good menu recommendations. He was personable and had great energy. The drinks and food came out timely and at good temperatures. The shrimp and grits were flavorful. The snow crab omelette lacked seasoning but overall wasn’t bad. As far as drinks, I had the Groundbreaking which wasn’t too sweet or too strong. It’s a refreshing gin drink and I only needed one. I booked the table originally for outside but was accommodated last minute for an indoor seating request. I would revisit and try other items. I would recommend for a girls brunch or date.

I love the history of this place and had an absolutely fantastic dining experience here recently. The service was outstanding. Our server, Jason was attentive and made great recommendations. The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in selecting cocktails to fit our palate. The stuffed trout was hands down my favorite dish. I also enjoyed the crab fondue, oxtails & oysters. I’ll definitely be back to catch the live music and for brunch. 10/10

The food and ambiance was great. The deep south cocktail was my favorite! I had the rex burger and my friend had the chicken and dumplings and both were really tasty. Don’t sleep on the fried green tomatoes and the sweet potato pie. Would definitely go back!

What a wonderful culinary experience! It started off with being greeted by a beautiful peacock on the door and only went up from there. The hostess/host were gracious and accomdating as we added a 7th person to our reservation in the 11th hour and ran 15 minutes late. The ambiance and decor of Rex at the Royal is perfect for date night or a grown and sexy dinner. The food and drinks are beyond delicious. They serve large portions and all 7 people at our table required to go boxes. Kudos to the waitstaff! Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend treating yourself to this South St. gem.

To start, the decor is very nice. A clean seafoam green with wood accents, vaulted ceilings, and very mod chandeliers. There is lots of seating with spacious comfy looking booths mixed with tables. We started with cocktails and they were excellent. The spotted laternfly is a really complex take on a fiz without much sweetness but a lot of depth that hits right. The pope is a nice mint julep style drink with a great presentation. There are a lot of cocktails to choose from and they have a top shelf cocktail menu that I didn't try on this visit. We got the crab fondue with pretzels to start which is a huge portion and bonkers good. I had the accra burger which is a tender fried veggie patty, I enjoyed it but it did fall apart a bit when eating. My partner had shrimp and grits which was savory with a firm texture. The andouille sausage was great but the shrimp could've used a tad more salt. It's not cheap but the portions were generous and the food was very good. The drinks were the highlight and I expect to come back again to try more specialty drinks and unique southern entrees.

Wonderful experience last night for dinner! We had the crab fondue which I will be coming back for again and again… the stew was incredible and the crawfish pot pie was so flavorful, felt unique, and yet so comforting! The staff was wonderful and definitely made our visit 5-star.

One of the best restaurants in town. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our waiter tyler was amazing. 5.0/5.0 for cocktails, food, service and overall ambiance

Awesome! The evening began with a kind and gracious host. We were seated promptly and quickly greeted by server. The cocktail list matched the aesthetic perfectly. The drinks were pretty and tasty. The crab dip and pretzels were delicious. The crab dip was mostly crab with a delicate balance of cheese. The pretzels were warm, soft and paired well. The crab dip was ample enough for additional pretzels which is rare. The crawfish pot pie was pure heaven. A great balance of ingredients and the crust was flaky. Again the portion was substantial. I actually had the pot pie as my entree and couldn’t finish it. The shrimp and grits was tasty but not outstanding. As a city girl that frequents Charleston and other southern destinations I was not overly impressed, but it held its own. The finale was the banana pudding cheesecake. Let me start by saying I typically do not eat banana pudding because it typically tastes so artificial and over sweetened. But take my word and try their cheesecake version. It was absolutely divine. A perfect balance of cheesecake, bananas, and graham cracker crusts. Last words……from beginning to end the service was flawless. The hostess, managers, runners, servers were all delightful and professional. Good service create a memorable experience.
